Fun Weekend!

We had a busy, but fun filled weekend! Mommy and Daddy were so excited to get to see their friends from college on Sunday for a BBQ at Lee and Chris' beautiful new home. We had so much fun!!! Here is mommy with her friends Lisa and Lee. We are so excited that Lee is having a baby in November!!!! Anthony was sitting with us at the kids table. Say cheese!
We had so much fun running around outside with Anthony!!! Here we were having a yelling contest to see who could scream the loudest:)
Lee and Chris have a great backyard with this super fun hill that we were running up and toppling down. Kaitlyn was breaking out her dance moves in this picture and bopping to the music!
Here they were acting like birds and "flying" down the hill!
Lisa and sweet little Angelina:)
Colin and Angelina hanging out in their pj's.
The two boys in their pjs before we left to go home.

Update on Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn is healing really well!!! We are thrilled!! We really wont know for a year or so if she needs more surgeries but for now we are just so happy that we are on the right path of recovery. She is bruised a little and is still swollen but the new skin looks great! She did bump it today and the stitches on her bottom lip starting bleeding....it was so sad because we knew it hurt pretty bad. Here she is sleeping so peacefully....I had just woke up from "our" nap and she looked so comfy and sweet sleeping. Hopefully we can take the arm stints off during naps and bedtime after this weekend and she will be allowed to sleep alone!
Her new sun hat came today in the mail so we went outside to test it out. Would you believe that the brim is not wide enough to keep the sun off of her lip so we are back on the hunt for a new one.....this one is pretty cute though:) She was checking out the newly planted flowers to see if they needed to be watered.
Grandma Young came over today to babysit so mommy could go run some errands and get a break. They used all of their legos to build a town. They were so proud of themselves!
Kaitlyn was showing off the new town that they built and making some changes.
When Daddy came home he read us some books while mommy was cooking dinner.

Visit with the plastic surgeon

We saw Kaitlyn's surgeon today at Glenbrook Hospital. He was very pleased with her recovery so far!!! He said that the skin that is dark in color will sloth off like a sunburn and pink skin will be underneath and it will eventually turn to a hopefully "normal" skin tone within a year. The dark skin should come off within this next week. Once that comes off we will be able to let her sleep alone...thankfully!!! Cam and I are not getting any sleep with her in bed with us. We have to keep her sleeping on her back so she doesnt rub the new skin on her pillow. And with her being a tummy sleeper we have to keep holding her arms all night so she doesnt flip over. Plus we have to nap with her as well. She is only wearing the arm stints at nap and bedtime. As for the steri-strips, we can take them off once they start to peel away or wait til they fall off. Their are stitches underneath. We are anxious to see what that area looks like from where they took the skin in front of her ear. She has been so good and doesnt really complain. The main concern right now is the sun. So I ordered a really good sun hat online at a store that will keep all of the sun rays out. She is very conscious of her "boo-boos" and tells you to be careful of them when you get her dressed or are wiping her face. We go back and see her surgeon a week from tomorrow for another post-op appt. We will let you know how things are going then!

Here are the kids today in their I Love Mommy and I Love Daddy shirts. The stairs are the only place they will sit still for a picture as you can tell.....we take most of our pics there:)

Kaitlyn's Recovery

Kaitlyn is recovering really well!! She has been such a trooper! Colin has been such a good brother to her too!! The new skin is now a very dark color which is great because we know their is blood flow to it. She is still taking pain meds every 3 hours but we hope to wean her off of them starting tomorrow once we see Dr. Vicari. We bought her a cute sun hat today for her to wear outside as she is not allowed to get any sun exposure on the new skin yet. She loves her new hat!! Colin wanted a Cubs hat so we found one for him too. Looks like it will be a hat wearing summer for us. This afternoon Grandma Young came over and planted flowers for us. They had a blast helping her dig in the mud...their new favorite thing to do:)
Here are some pics from our day!

Kaitlyn is Home!

Kaitlyn's surgery went well! It was about 2 hours and 5 min long. They were going to admit her and had a bed ready but then decided that we could take her home which we were happy about. Thanks for all of your prayers and well wishes!
We are now in recovery mode which is more involved than we thought. She went in to the OR like a trooper!!! We opted out of giving her any drugs to sedate her before hand because she was doing so well. She came out of the anesthesia pretty upset but once they gave her some morphine she was back in la-la land:) The skin graft was larger than we expected. It covers the area from her top lip line all the way to her "smile crease" line. This will help minimize a scar line if its in the smile crease line. The skin was bright white but already changing colors to a purplish and will eventually turn to a skin color tone after several weeks. She has to wear arm stints to keep her arms straight and keep her from touching the area because it is completely exposed and not bandaged. They used dissolvable stitches so we dont have to go back to the OR to have them removed which is great! We havent seen the area where they took the skin from in front of her ear because its covered with steri-strips. The hard part now is keeping her from getting at the new, fragile skin. Its VERY delicate and the slightest rub or anything would be very bad. Of course she is a tummy sleeper so we are going to have to let her sleep with us for a few nights so we can keep her on her back and monitor her. Cam and I are taking shifts sitting with her because we cant trust her enough to leave her alone for fear she will rub the skin with her arm stints which she has already figured out. We had an ok night. Cam and I didnt sleep much though. She is doing really well this morning and had her personality back which was great! We go back to see her plastic surgeon on Monday. We will keep you updated!
Here are some pictures of her before surgery. She was very happy in the car but got more curious when we were in the hospital and all of the doctors were in the room. I am opting out of showing any pictures of the skin graft now as its pretty graphic looking but once it heals it will look wonderful!!!!!

Kaitlyn's Surgery

Kaitlyn had her pre-op appointment today and they cleared her for surgery! It is scheduled for this Friday morning. We wont know the time until tomorrow when the hospital calls. She is the 2nd case so it should be early which is great since she cant eat and we all know how much she loves to eat:) Also, they found a heart murmur when they were examining her today so it is something we need to have re-examined in the future. We will post an update once we are home Friday to let you all know how it went.
Please keep our little princess in your prayers on Friday!

Enjoying the holiday weekend!

We have been having so much fun playing outside with the nice weather! We both are still sick so we stayed home this weekend and spent time as a family. Here we are enjoying a snack. Daddy was watering the plants and we were helping him turn over the dirt. We LOVE to dig and fill our buckets. We wear our gardening gloves too.
Teamwork! Kaitlyn was holding the bucket so Colin could dump dirt into it. We played so well together this weekend and enjoyed the time hanging out at home:)

Naptime or Gymnastics Time??

This was too funny not to post!!! I know we have told many of you about Colin's gymnastics during nap time but I wanted to show you because its hilarious to watch. This is him on the video monitor today doing handstands against his door when he should be napping. Some days he falls asleep right away and other days he will do gymnastics in his room for an hour or two before he falls asleep. Look closely and you can see him in the right corner of the screen...its too funny! The lights are all lit up on the screen because he is singing while he is on his head too:) Here I think he is doing a headstand fully on his head and not even using his hands....goof ball:)

Fun Pics

Kaitlyn wanted to show both of her Grandmas this shirt......in case you cant see it says:
"My Heart Belongs to Grandma"Do we love each other????
Of course we do!!!!
As you can see Colin's stitches are healing pretty well. We hope to be able to take their 2 1/2 year pictures sometime soon without anymore "boo-boos".
Its hard to believe that they will be 2 1/2 years old on the 18th!

Building with K'NEX

Thanks to our cousins Reid and Jay who introduced us to K'NEX toys!!! Daddy helped us build this creature tonight. We think the creatures are SO funny looking and they make us giggle:) Colin built this helicopter all by himself!
Kaitlyn loves to build flowers and they also double as princess wands.
Depends what mood she is in:)
